Originating in North East Siberia, the Siberian Husky is known as a working dog breed. It has a thick furred double coat that makes it stand out. They are active and energetic and were bred to pull heavy loads across long distances in difficult weather conditions. Initially used as sled dogs, they soon became family pets.
Their double coat comprises of a dense undercoat and over it a shorter coat of guard hairs. These coats require regular grooming. Siberian Huskies come in a variety of colours and patterns. The most common colours are black and white. They have moderately spaced eyes that are almond-shaped and heavily furred tails.
Siberian Huskies are steadfast and resilient and are capable of weathering cold and harsh climates. They have a tendency to roam and are good at attempting to escape by digging holes, chewing or jumping over fences. Not very possessive in nature, these dogs have an even temper. Their appealing nature, wolf like appearance and love for other dogs make them ideal to have at home.
